Dishoom pays loving homage to the Irani cafés that were once part of the fabric of life in Bombay. Opened early last century by Zoroastrian immigrants from Iran, there were almost four hundred of these cafés at their peak in the 1960s. Now fewer than thirty remain.

Rich businessmen, courting couples and sweaty taxi-wallas all frequented these cafés. Open all day, everyday, democratic and affordable, they faithfully served the community.

Begin your day at Dishoom with breakfast, which might be a Bacon Naan Roll, a Kejriwal or a Big Bombay – washed down with plenty of House Chai. You might like to linger with a newspaper, or avail yourself of the free ChaiFi (no password required)

Then lunch lightly on Roomali Rolls and Salad Plates, or perhaps stay a while and enjoy a bowl of Biryani or the Covent Garden Chef’s special of Haleem – a slow-cooked lamb delicacy.

Or just go along for a tipple – a Dishoom IPA, a cooling Lassi or perhaps an East India Gimlet. Transport yourself back to Bombay with the taste of Thums Up cola and Limca.
