St Martin's Courtyard will pay tribute to the heritage and future of Covent Garden this summer with a festival celebrating food and flowers. On Saturday 13 July between 12 noon and 5pm, all six international restaurants will serve unique, exclusively created dishes and drinks with a floral theme, al fresco in the courtyard.
Jamie's Italian will spit roast a whole lamb al fresco, accompanied by rose jelly, floral breads and floral infused cocktails. Suda Thai will be serving 'Chor-muang', steamed Thai dumplings handcrafted into a flower shape, from a Bangkok style street food cart in the courtyard. Don't miss the 'Butterfly Kiss' cocktails garnished with a viola and demonstrations of the traditional Thai art of fruit carving.
Cantina Laredo, the modern Mexican in Covent Garden, will be in full bloom, bringing the fiesta to the St Martin's Courtyard Food and Flowers Festival. Visit Cantina Laredo's pop-up bar in the courtyard where 2,000 limited edition Casa Ambar Hibiscus Margaritas will be given away. Guaranteed to make your taste buds blossom, this fragrant floral concoction is made using home-made syrup infused with tropical hibiscus flower, boutique Casa Ambar Blanco 100% Blue Agave tequila, Cointreau and freshly squeezed lime. Enjoy free samples of Cantina Laredo's signature dishes including their Top Shelf Guacamole, prepared before your eyes. Inside the restaurant, Cantina Laredo will be serving a specially created Squash Blossom dish (also known as zucchini flower) stuffed with feta cheese and fresh herbs, coated and fried in a light batter with a drizzle of sweet and spicy chilli honey.
Italian enoteca Dalla Terra will be hosting a competition inviting people to guess three wines based on the smell of their floral overtones. It's multiple choice, so amateurs and experts are all welcome - there's prizes if you can guess the floral notes of the wine's bouquet from the aroma. There will be mini masterclasses in wine tasting in the restaurant throughout the day focusing on how floral notes influence the palate, the popularity and food choice. The menu in the restaurant will also incorporate dishes created with a floral ingredient.
For something different, sample Melvita's Bee Products including honeys, royal jelly and pollen. Visit Dishoom's Bombay bar in the courtyard for a rose and cardamom lassi or Bombay Pimm's made with rose syrup. Indulge a sweet tooth with floral cupcakes from Bill's market barrow.
The courtyard will be dressed with a fabulous floral installation and The Covent Garden Academy of Flowers will create a spectacular banquet table with a full spread made entirely from flowers. You will have the chance to try your hand at floral design, creating a cupcake from flowers to take home.
Enjoy live music from vintage singing duo Verity and Violet, also performing is the Hackney Colliery Band, a big brass band with a fun repertoire of popular music; expect anything from Pulp to Beyonce.
Covent Garden was traditionally the home of the Flower Market (made famous by Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady) and is now a renowned foodie destination.
